On Saturday 3rd February 2024, we participated in a Joint Venture event with our friends from the Hunter British Ford Group, “The Valve Bouncers & Gear Grinders Gathering”.
We met at a location nearby and drove in a convoy of 20+ cars to the location of a large and excellent private collection of cars housed at a sensational site with its roots in WW2.
Everyone was free to casually wander through the venue, catch up with friends old and new, and look at some really terrific cars on display – both road and race.
Following a barbeque lunch, we were addressed by the several invited guests, including:
- Wayne Bell – a noted rally driver from the 70’s & 80’s with stints with both the Marlboro Holden Dealer Team and the Hyundai Rally Team, his long term co-driver Dave Boddy.
- George Garth, a touring car driver (and co-driver with our member Bruce Stewart) who tasted much success, including many class wins and places in the annual Bathurst Classic.
- Darrell Peattie who has and continues to compete successfully in club level motorsport.
- Trevor Peterson, a legendary figure well known to many in the small Ford scene in Australia.
Members travel from as far as Bathurst & the Blue Mountains, as well as the usual suspects from Sydney and surrounds and all were absolutely in awe of both the venue, the cars on display and the opportunity to get up close & personal with the invited drivers from the past.
