Boreham Motorworks Reveal New Ford Escort Mk1 RS2000

Fifty years on from the final limited edition, high-performance variant of the Ford Escort Mk1 RS-lineage, the Mk1 RS2000. Boreham Motorworks is pleased to announce applications are now being accepted for one of a limited run of only 150 cars worldwide with continuation chassis numbers.

Customers can select from two characterful engine options, each embodying the spirit of the Ford RS legacy while delivering modern performance. The first engine option, available as standard, is the iconic Twin Cam, which has been increased to 1845cc. Featuring fuel injection delivering 185PS, this engine is paired with a 4 speed manual “Ford bullet” synchromesh straight cut transmission, it pays perfect tribute to the Boreham built Escort Mk1 Twin Cam, combining its storied history with precise, responsive performance for today’s roads.

For those seeking the option of something engineered as a modern-day interpretation of classic Ford motorsport DNA, an all-new motorsport derived 4-cylinder high-revving Ford engine awaits. This road-tuned 2.1-litre cast and billet engine weighing in at under 85kg features double overhead camshaft and chain cam drive and produces an astonishing 10,000 RPM and 300 PS. To handle this extreme performance the engine benefits from forged steel conrods and billet crankshaft. A motorsport spec loom and connectors are used to connect coil over plug ignition, advanced fuel injection and ECU management is included along with electronic throttle control. This powerhouse will deliver thrilling performance while retaining usability.

Connected to this 10,000 RPM powerhouse will be a bespoke titanium exhaust system that has been tuned for performance and exhilarating sound. Power is channelled through a 5-speed dogleg gearbox delivering perfect weight and throw complimented with bespoke gear ratios. This ensures seamless and direct engagement, making this drivetrain as exhilarating on the open road as it is on the track.

Equally important to the pure distilled driving pleasure of the Ford MK1 Escort RS, are the features it does not have. No power steering, no ABS, no traction control and no brake servo. In combination, this delivers a new RS with a singular focus, connecting the driver to the road. On track, the new Ford Escort Mk1 RS delivers a visceral driving experience with controllable oversteer that is perfectly balanced, allowing the driver to breakaway and hold slides while ensuring the car is both controllable and predictable.

The bespoke 15″ x 7″ four-spoke wheels, paired with 205/50×15 tyres at the front and 15″ x 8″ wheels with 225/50×15 tyres at the rear, pay homage to the styling of the original Mk1 Escort while enhancing modern performance. Stopping power is provided by 260mm x 25mm vented discs with four-piston callipers at the front and 264mm x 11mm solid discs with two-piston callipers at the rear, ensuring exceptional braking performance.

Limited to 150 cars, pricing starts from £295,000. A 2-year 20,000-mile warranty will also ensure customers get out and drive with confidence. The public and press will get their first chance to see the car in the summer of 2025, ahead of production starting in Q3, the same year.

Sierra and Escort Cosworth Fire Risk

RS500 on fire

It seems the Fuel Pressure Regulators and fuel lines in many Sierra Cosworths are reaching end of life given a number of recent fuel related fires.

The diaphragm in the OEM regulator may fail as it ages and hardens. If you find fuel in the vacuum pipe connected to the regulator its an indication the regulator has failed. Another indication the regulator may have failed is the inability of the motor to idle whilst running rich.

Direct fitment after market regulators are available with both fixed pressure inserts and variable pressure inserts. Another option is to have the OEM regulator refurbished.

RSOC Australia 40th Anniversary

Western Advocate 1 November 2022
Ford RS Owners Club (Australia) to host a concourse and display at Mount Panorama for their 40th anniversary in November

RSOC AU 40th Bathurst Sierra RS500“It’s a landmark event at a landmark.”

You’re a racing group celebrating 40 years in operation, where do you go to celebrate?

There is only one answer: Mount Panorama.

That’s what the Ford RS Owners Club (Australia) president, Mark Hockey, said as his group prepares to descend on Bathurst early next month to celebrate the club’s anniversary.

Forty years on, the club has continued to grow with approximately 100 members registered to date.

Mr Hockey, along with the club’s magazine editor, Stephen Roser, said in their interview with the Western Advocate the concourse and display day at the Bathurst Motor Racing Museum will offer people a chance to see some quality Ford vehicles up close.

“It’s our 40th anniversary, it only happens once. A lot of the cars in our club are representative of those that have previously raced at Mount Panorama – Sierras, Escorts, a bit of everything,” Mr Hockey said.

RSOC AU 40th Bathurst RS3100“Someone is bringing their Mk1, it’s an escort that did actually race at Bathurst and it’s out of a batch of only 25 that Ford brought into the country, so it’s pretty special,” Mr Roser said.

“There will be heaps of cars there, perhaps about 15 to 20. The display will be a good opportunity for people to get up close to the cars and talk to the people who own them,” Mr Hockey added.

The RSOC Australia’s 40th anniversary annual concourse and display day will be held at the Bathurst Motor Racing Museum in Mount Panorama from 9am on November 6.

The RSOC Australia’s inception dates back to mid-1982 when an advertisement in various auto magazines united RS enthusiasts from all corners of the nation.
